Hosts Jo and Michael Calnan provide a warm welcome to guests of An Garrán Cóir , Irish for "plentiful grove," While it is classified as a "farmhouse", though the term does not adequately convey the essence of An Garrán Cóir . Certainly Michael is a retired dairy farmer. And the rolling green hills surrounding An Garrán Cóir are lush and rich for farming. An Garrán Cóir delivers country holidays, delivering comfort and sophistication not commonly found in farmhouses.
An Garrán Cóir has recently undergone extensive renovations. The large and spacious five Guestrooms are now solidly up to AA four diamond standards, with luxurious power showers, baths, large beds with fine linens. Of course rooms are all well appointed with tv, tea and coffee making, and hairdryers.
Host Jo Calnan serves up an award winning breakfast in a spacious bright dining room overlooking the gardens. So many wholesome choices-- hot fruit salad, organic porridge, and clonakilty yogurts, even farm fresh eggs (you can collect yourself if you fancy!). homemade preseves and breads, fresh-baked scones -- An Garrán Cóir have won national awards in the "best breakfast" category.
Excellent dinners, available by request, are equally a treat. "From tunnel to table" is the prevailing food ethic at An Garrán Cóir , sourcing only the freshest ingredients, from the organic vegetables grown in the hothouse out back to the wealth of regional ingredients that's put West Cork on the map for food destinations.
Just an hour's drive from Cork, An Garrán Cóir is an ideally positioned as a relaxing getaway, in a quiet countryside setting with so much at your disposal. Miles of sandy beaches just down the road, fabulous for walking. Bikes can't be rented and delivered to the house. Horse riding, pitch and put, and golf are available nearby. If you want an evening of food or a session of music, Clonakilty and Rosscarbery, and Glandore are all just ten minutes away.
