Kenmare - Killarney Cycle Route
The Kenmare to Killarney cycle route is set amongst the picturesque mountains and lakes of the popular Killarney National Park. The route starts off in the quaint town of Kenmare, travels north towards Molls Gap before sweeping down to the lively and bustling town of Killarney. This is an easy 23-mile cycle allowing for amble time to enjoy the aesthetic delights of the glaciated limestone valleys and beautiful Lakes of Killarney National park as well as the wonderful restored historical houses and castles.
Leaving the town of Kenmare behind cyclists should proceed north along the N71, the main gateway to Killarney. Although this road hosts a few more cars than bikes, drivers tend to drive very slow overwhelmed by the stunning scenery. A steady climb to Molls gap is rewarded with a delightful view of the valley below and a refreshing drink at the well placed caf at the top!
From here its a smooth ride down towards Ladies View, which offers spectacular vistas of the Upper Lake of Killarney National Park. Continuing downhill cyclists will soon find themselves in the heart of the Park with its ancient forests and glacier lakes. Cyclists can travel through the huge grounds of the Muckross Estate, tucked away on the left hand side of the road, with its celebrated gardens and 15th Century Franciscan Abbey. The National Park Visitor Centre at Muckross House provides helpful information about all aspects of the park including its many nature walks. Returning back to the main road its a short spin into the lively town of Killarney where a wide variety of accommodation, watering holes and entertainment are on offer.
