Fairymount Farm Walks & Trails
Located outside Roscrea in County Tipperary in the heart of the Midlands, a scenic unspoilt region of Ireland, Fairymount farm is a sheep, horse and forestry farm that provides walking trails that access a wealth of archeological, scenic and natural amenities.
Award winning Fairymount Farm is a large organic farm, covering some 450 acres, primarily devoted to the production of sheep and breeding Thoroughbred horses. But what sets this farm apart from others is the wealth of natural and heritage resources on the 450 acre site and the manner in which they've embraced tourism, proudly welcoming visitors onto their land.
Fairymount Farm has three designated walking trails, serving the both real hikers and casual walkers, together taking in an impressive mix of scenery, natural areas and heritage sites.
The Heritage Walk is the longest, at 5.5 miles, and takes in all of the farm's numerous attractions, including: archaeological sites, pastures, woodlands, forestry, one of Irelands few remaining native oak woods and even includes a beautiful 25 acre private lake, Lough Nahinch.
The Hill Walk, a short and precipitous 1 mile in length, takes you to the top of the famous 700 ft hill of Knochshegowna, where invariably you'll be dazzled by the surrounding Tipperary countryside and the magical and unspoilt panoramic views of 7 counties.
The Lake Walk covers some 2 miles and takes you through the rare native oak wood and further along to Lough Nahinch, then onwards to the archeological sites including an ancient Crannog, ( small, circular, manmade islands in lakes ); Fulachta Fiadh, an ancient cooking site of burnt and shattered stone dating back some 3,000 years; and a ring fort dating back to early Christian times (c.500 – 1100 A.D.).
