Enniscrone Strand

Enniscrone, Co. Sligo

Set along the shores of Killala Bay in Co. Sligo, Enniscrone's famed strand is a vital recreational amenity to the seaside community of Enniscrone, ideal for walking, swimming, surfing, and relaxation.

Enniscrone Strand is a magnificent stretch of beach. Its broad and sandy and stretches out into horizon like a golden ribbon: some 6 km of beach begging to be strolled. Descend onto the beach from the old historic seaweed baths near the pier. Take your shoes off and start walking. Past the village's hodgepodge architecture. Past the impromptu car park in the sand. Past the caravan park. And past the sand dune complex through which the 27 links course is carved. As you walk Enniscrone Strand, shoes off, feet alternating between sand and water, you feel layers of stress being left behind like the clothes readily peeled from your body.

Enniscrone is also a swimmer's paradise. Watched over by lifeguards in the busy summer months, Enniscrone's broad and sandy shoreline is relative free from currents. For many years running Enniscrone has earned Blue Flag Status, though doesn't presently hold such title. Still its a haven for watersports, including swimming, windsurfing and increasingly surfing.

Enniscrone Strand is a vital resource for the local economy which depends on the tourism industry, a hotspot for swimming, surfing, windsurfing and walking. The beach is a regional draw, used extensively by the population of the nearby town of Ballina, County Mayo. Its also gained a reputation nationally for being a desirable getaway. So much of Enn
