Treasa Maoilean - Sean Nos Singer
Treasa Maoilean was born into music. Everyone in her family were singers, and seemingly everyone on the island. It was another era altogether, when pop music on the radiio took second fiddle to the indigenous music of the islands. Music infused all aspects of daily routine, whether baking bread, milking the cows or just walking down the street. "When I was a child there were very good singers all over the Island. You could always hear music."
Possessing abundant ability and a deep affinity for traditional music, Treasa's voice quickly rose above the rest. In didn't take long before her talents were widely recognized, first on Arann then across Ireland and Europe. In recognition of her talents she was often invited to various festivals to teach and compete. She's earned numerous distinctions and has three times earned the title of "All Ireland Champion" in SeanNos singing at Fleadh Ceoil.
Many of these singers that first inspired Treasa have long since passed, their songs still resonate through her and through her music. Treasa Maoilean has worked actively to teach and inspire the next generation of singers, conducting classes and workshops on SeanNs on the island, across Ireland and abroad to Europe.
