Cake Cafe is a small, brightly lit premises with eight tables spills. The interior of the Cake Cafe is rather small. Half of the room is taken up by an open air bistro style kitchen. But on pleasant days and during the busy lunchtime rush, diners spill out into the leafy courtyard.
It is the perfect place to relax with a savoury tart and a glass of wine selected from The Cake Café’s carefully chosen wine list.
The Cake Cafe adheres to a simple formula, good food and a keen attention to detail. As the name would indicate the Cake Cafe specializes in freshly baked cakes, biscuits, pastries, and breads, all baked in their kitchen, as well as serving hand crafted artisan coffees, savoury tarts, "tasty tapas with an Irish twist," and a selection of carefully selected wines.
The Cake Cafe has firmly embraced Ireland's food movement. Irish artisan food producers feature throughout the simple yet interesting menu. The Cake Cafe also regularly hosts a range of special events, including creative cookery classes and fun, informative wine tastings.
The Cake Cafe is a place for coffee snobs as well as food enthusiasts. Their coffee is imported and roasted by Michael from Ariosa, so not only are beans are ethically sourced and fully traceable, they're blended every week and delivered fresh the next day. Each cup of coffee served is guaranteed to be seeping with full, rich flavour.
The Cake Cafe's ethos embodies a strong ethic of environmental ethic, affecting almost every aspect of their operations, from the use of bio degradable cleaning products and plastic bags, solar polar to heat the building, recycling and composting their waste, even utilizing rainwater to flush the toilettes. The Cafe is located in the Daintree Building, a mixed use apartment building that has won awards for its green design. This environmental ethic extends to the sourcing of food. All the eggs are free range and organic produce is used to the greatest extent possible.
