Annes Grove
Set on sheltered slopes overlooking the River Awbeg, Annes Grove is a supremely romantic garden laid out in the early twentieth century, incorporating elements of an earlier era, that of an 18th century ornamental glen and landscape. Annes Grove gardens boasts a wealth of rare Rhodedendrons in the extensive woodland garden. Other species, such as magnolias, hoherias, and eucryphias grow to an unusual size. Behind the 18th century house, secretive paths wind down past limestone cliffs, offering rare glimpses of the river, lily ponds and wild meadow below. Riverside walks are bordered by giant foliage plants and naturalized day lilies, astrilbes, and primulas. Above the cliff, the walled garden offers a display of herbaceous clour throughout the summer, contrasting styles within compartments divided by hedges of box, beech, and yew.
