Craggaunowen, The Living Past

At Craggaunowen-The Living Past provides an vivid interpretation of the arrival of the Celts in Ireland. The story is told of how they lived, farmed, hunted and died. Visitors can, see a replica of a Crann�g (Lake Dwelling), Ring Fort and �An Iron Age Roadway.� Craggaunowen Castle which was built around 1550 is also situated on the grounds.

One of the major feature at Craggaunowen is the �Brendan Boat," the famous vessel built by Tim Severin who sailed from Ireland to Greenland to re-enact the voyage of St. Brendan, who was reputed to have discovered America centuries before Columbus.

Visitors to Craggaunowen can also see animals such as Soay sheep and wild boar which are actual species of the pre-historic era.

If You Go: Craggaunowen- The Living Past is open Mid April - Sept, from 10.00-18.00. Last admissions are at 17.00. Average visit is 1.5 hours. Entrance is � 7.85 for adults, �4.75 for Children.
