Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle located in the Kilkenny city centre in County Kilkenny is a beautifully restored castle set amidst extensive parklands. The 12th century castle was once the seat of the Butler Family, the Dukes of Ormonde. In the 1830s, the castle was massively restored in a Victorian manner and the castle now includes a library, drawing room, bedrooms, and Long Gallery, all beautiully decorated to depict the Victorian era.
The old castle kitchen operates as a tea room during the summer. A suite of former servants rooms is now the Butler Art Gallery, which mounts frequently changing exhibitions of contemporary art.
If You Go: Kilkenny Castle is open daily, all year-round. Times vary each month so it is best to phone ahead for accurate opening and closing times. Admission for adults is €5.30 for adults, €3.70 group/OAP, and €2.10 for students and children.
