Blue Pool Ferry
Launching from the scenic village of Glengarriff in West Cork, The Blue Pool Ferry Company runs a comfortable and safe passenger boat service to and from Garinish Island, or Illnacullin as it is also known.
Garinish has become renowned in horticultural circles for its lush and fertile landscape. Located in the shelter of Glengarriff Harbour in Bantry Bay, warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, Garinish enjoys a climate that is almost sub-tropical, making it possible for beautiful ornamental plants from many parts of the world to flourish.
For nearly a century Garinish has been cultivated as a garden. Garinish came into being thanks to Annan Bryce, who in 1910 bought the 15 hectare island and began developing the gardens.
Work wasn't easy, as the island was barren at the time. But Annan Bryce discovered the most hospitable of climates for gardening. And Garinish Island has become Ireland's most outstanding garden island with its internationally famous collection of plants and world-renowned for its Italian Gardens.
Garinish island is a unique gardens gem well worth exploring.
If You Go: Blue Pool Ferries operates regular tours of Garinish throughout the tourist season. The Ferry departs from the Blue Pool, outside of Glengariff. Guests are suggested to book tickets in advance. Tours are generally 3-4 hours in length.
