Grasshopper Cottage

Lured by the scenery and excellent brown trout fishing, Roy and Sorcha Peirce made their home at Grasshopper Cottage on the shore of Lough Corrib and soon after opened their cottage to guests. And thus a fishing lodge was born.

Grasshopper Cottage declares itself to be the "Centre for Wild Brown Trout and Salmon Fishing in the West of Ireland." And indeed it may well be. Roy Peirce was a founding member of the Great Fishing Houses of Ireland and their lodge certainly has attracted an avid following among fly fishermen. But non-fishing guests need not be deterred. Everyone can appreciate Grasshopper Cottage's unique blend of hospitality, home cooking, and scenic grandeur. The view from their garden looking out on to Lough Corrib is mesmerizing.

The cottage offers comfortable en suite guest rooms, most with views of the lake. Roy and Sorcha serve up ample hospitality. Guests enjoy home-cooked food using fresh ingredients and produce from the garden and dinner is available by request.

Lough Corrib is the West of Ireland's largest lake, renowned for its wild brown trout. Grassshopper Cottage, set on the shores of this beautiful lake, provides an attractive escape for fishermen who fancy fly fishing for the Corrib's coveted brown trout. In fact fly fishing is something of a specialty for Grasshopper Cottage, offering up direct access to the lake, hiring boats and tackle, rod room, drying room, and a network of Gillies available for guiding trips.

But Grasshopper Lodge holds appeal far beyond its venerable fishing credentials. Activities such as walking, cycling, horse riding, and golf are all in abundance in this scenically rich region, at the doorstep of Connemara and Joyce Country.
