Set beside the harbour and in the shadow of a pirate queen's 15th century castle on Clare Island in Co Mayo, Granuaile House is a guesthouse with seven en suite bedrooms overlooking the island's main beach.
Ireland's islands are renowned for providing superbly relaxing getaways and Clare Island is among the most secluded and idyllic. Clare Island is renowned for being a walkers paradise, with stunning sea cliffs and a dramatic mountain that flanks itself rather dramatically into the sea.
Granuaile House provides the perfect Clare Island getaway: a small family run Bed & Breakfast with seven en suite guest rooms. Granualie House is run by the McCabe family who known for their generous warmth and hospitality. Their recently renovated guest-house retains west of ireland charm, with modern comforts and facilities. Each colourful bedroom is comfortable and well appointed, with tea and coffee making facilities. Famiy sized rooms are available. While thankfully there are no televisions in the room, guests to Granuaile House enjoy access to the Residents Lounge. With its open fire and stone walls, its a great place to read, converse, watch television or, simply gaze onto the harbour and watch the world go by.
Granuaile House features home-cooking, traditional baking with a creative flare. Food is served in the relaxing and open dining room, where guests enjoy satisfying breakfasts. Packed lunches and dinners are available on request, a bonus given the lack of dining establishments on Clare Island.
Granuaile House enjoys a stunning setting. Peer from your bedroom window or step outside, breath deep the fresh sea air and take in the sweeping vistas: the remnants of pirate queen Grace O'Malley's 15th century castle, spectacular Clew Bay, and the sandy beach that Grainuaile House overlooks, ideal for walking, swimming or sunbathing, should you get the weather.
