In the village of Riverstown in Co. Sligo, Sligo Folk Park brings to life the cultural heritage of rural ireland through a variety of attractions including a traditional cottage, museum and exhibition hall, reconstructed village street, working forge, and traditional craft centre.
Through a variety of exhibits and attractions, Sligo Folk Park interprets and enlivens the cultural history of Sligo and heritage of rural Ireland.
The Museum and Exhibition Hall, set in the style of a traditional residence with courtyard, houses a fine collection of rural history and agricultural artefacts, with the collection being continually revised and expanded.
Another popular attraction at Sligo Folk Park is the Village Street, a carefully recreated village street scape with a variety of shops and services typically once found in every Irish Village – the Creamery store, the Pub, the Grocers…each one containing authentic objects.
Sligo Folk Park also houses a Traditional Craft Centre displaying some of Sligo's finest craft works -- paintings, woodturning, books and tourist information -- as well as folk park souvenirs and tourist information.
Guests to Sligo Folk Park also enjoy visiting Mrs. Buckleys Cottage – a traditional Irish cottage that also happens to be world’s most travelled cottage.
Outside the park proper but well worth a visit, the late 19th century Millview House provides an account of how Irish life was around the late 1800s, with open workshops in which historical artefacts are restored to their former glory.
Other Attractions include a fully equipped Forge, a replicated classroom, a complete range of restored agricultural artefacts that tell the story of Irish farming life from the 19th to the mid twentieth century, geese, turkeys, peacocks, peahens, rabbits, goats, hens and ducks.
Sligo Fok Park hosts numerous workshops and craft demonstrations, including the making creel, butter, and straw, as well as thatching, lime plastering and wood turning, to name a few.
Should you work up a hunger through all these historic ramblings, the Millview Restaurant serves up good homemade food and refreshments, freshly made sandwiches and baked goods.
