Enniscoe Gardens

Set on the shores of Lough Conn, the restored gardens of the stately early 18th-century Enniscoe House feature an extensive, ornate walled garden, pleasure grounds, a heritage centre, and tea rooms, all complimenting the guesthouse and restaurant

Enniscoe Gardens has ebbed and flowed its way across the centuries, a common story to many of Ireland's great gardens, with successive generations of resurrection and neglect. While few traces remain of the 18th century gardens, what does exist today is the inspired works of several generations of gardeners, particularly from 1840 to 1950, when the garden was largely resurrected, thanks to the hard work several generations of inspired gardeners

After the 1950's the gardens of Enniscoe fell back into decline, only to be resurrected again in recent years, as a result of the hard work and dedication of Susan Kellett and the array of support she's enlisted, with grant support from Bord Fáilte, under The Great Gardens of Ireland Restoration Programme and other funds.

Today Enniscoe House features a restored walled garden, an ornamental garden with a rustic stone archway planted with hardy ferns and the long rockery. With the walled garden successfully restored, work in recent years has focused on Enniscoe's extensive pleasure grounds.

Mayo North Heritage Centre also operates in a restored outbuilding adjoining Enniscoe Gardens, containing a museum of household artifacts and farm machinery. The tea rooms opens onto a terrace overlooking the gardens, and the shop stocks local crafts and antique collectibles.

Enniscoe House itself is an upscale country house accommodation that's a member of Irelands Blue Book, open for dinner, bed and breakfast from April to October.
