Emlaghmore Lodge

Ballyconneely, Co. Galway

Set overlooking a river and surrounding mountains in wild and beautiful Connemara in Co. Galway, Emlaghmore Lodge is a secluded 19th century fishing lodge with four guest rooms providing an ideal outdoor getaway.

Emlaghmore House is idyllically located just off the coast road between Roundstone and Clifden, The lodge looks out over its own little river towards the famous Twelve Pins, the main mountain range in Connemara. Between the river and the mountains is the Roundstone Bog, a famous conservation area and a haven for otters, birds of prey and unusual and interesting plant species. Behind the house is the Atlantic Ocean, with seals, rocky islands and sandy beaches.

Emlaghmore Lodge has been the holiday house of the Tinne family for more than 80 years. Host Nicholas Tinne now makes Emlaghmore his permanent home and welcomes guests into this fabulous retreat. Emlaghmore is furnished with antiques, family portraits and memorabilia from the family's long involvement in trade with Demerara in the West Indies. The bedrooms are all beautifully appointed and comfortable, with good views of mountain, lake, river or sea.

Dinners, available on request at Emlaghmore, are a real treat, as Nicholas is an accomplished chef whose skills were honed as a proprietor of a famous Dublin restaurant. Together he and Janet Coveney carry on this tradition at Emlaghmore Lodge, using local Connemara produce with great skill and imagination.

Emlaghmore Lodge is set in the heart of Connemara, renowned for its dramatic landscape of mountains, bogs, lakes, rivers and rugged coastlines. So it goes without saying there are abundant attractions and recreational diversions to enjoy. There’s a championship links golf course near the village of Ballyconneely. And other Local activities include fishing, sailing, horse riding, surfing, and hill walking. Connemara National Park, the Aran Islands and Inishbofin, and Kylemore Abbey are all easily accessible. The pretty harbour village of Roundstone, with good restaurants and pubs, is only six miles away. Even closer are the fabulous coral beaches of Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay.

If You Go: Emlaghmore Lodge is open Easter to the end of October.
