Tyrella House
Set among extensive grounds along the Irish Sea outside Downpatrick in Co. Down, Tyrella House is a grand old country house that’s family home providing accommodation in three guest rooms.
David Corbett has his family welcome guests into their family home at Tyrella House, home to the Corbett Family for many years. The present house is quite large and impressive, classically designed and clad in ivy. Architecturally it is quite interesting, a fine bow-ended house built around an older Georgian Gabled House, with Wyatt windows and a handsome classical porch.
Tyrella is a wonderful place to relax The house is beautifully furnished, and extremely comfortable. Accommodation is provided in three of the bedrooms. Delicious dinners are served on request, perhaps of home-grown lamb and vegetables from the garden.
Tyrella House is set in an impressive location, in the shadows of the Mourney Mountains, yet quietly tucked away at the point where they 'sweep down to the sea'. The grounds are mixed between lush woodlands and pastureland, which in turn give onto a private sandy beach. The Corbett family are all very involved with horses, which feature prominently at Tyrella House. Much of the grounds are devoted to equestrian riding and there’s even a polo ground. Guests can take riding lessons along one of the extensive country courses, or gallop for miles on the long, sandy beach. Or just amble quietly among the fields.
Guests to Tyrella House can enjoy many fine attractions nearby. Gardeners and heritage enthusiasts can visit the many National Trust houses and gardens nearby at Castleward, Castlewellan, Mountstewart, Rowallane and Tollymore, all with easy reach. There are wonderful migratory birds at Castle Espie Wildfowl Reserve on Strangford Lough. Trout fishing can be arranged locally and golfers have a wide choice of courses and links.
