Lahinch Golf Club

Lahinch, Co. Clare

Lahinch Golf Club is well steeped in golfing tradition. Golf has been played at Lahinch for over 100 years. The Old Course at Lahinch has undergone many fine tunings over the last century. Lahinch is aptly referred to as "the St. Andrews of Ireland," a fitting tribute to its rich golf lineage, " Over the last century Lahinch has heard many such praises. Lahinch still maintains itself as one of the most renowned courses in the game of golf. It remains a mecca for keen golfers.

Lahinch's Old Course has benefited both from the natural characteristics of the terrain and from the genius of distinguished course architects, none other Alistar McKenzie and the legendary Old Tom Morris: arguably the two most famous designers golf has ever known. Between them they've created several of the world's greatest courses, including St. Andrews, Augusta and Pebble Beach.

One round on the Old Course and you will discover the collective genius of their design. MacKenzie himself was a purist, who strongly believed in keeping a natural appearance to a golf course, creating and shaping holes according to the sites natural features. And in the case of Lahinch he worked masterfully with the rolling duneland to create a truly compelling links experience, utilizing undulations and contours and movement that roll with the natural fall of the land. Old Tom Morris later accepted the challenge of redesigning Lahinch. But other than laying out the tees and greens, he felt there was little he could do. He commented: 'I consider the links is as fine a natural course as it has ever been my good fortune to play over.'

Our Take on Lahinch Golf Club

Lahinch is one of the finest links courses in the world. But be forewarned: because of its popularity, access to Lahinch during busy summer months is very difficult. And greens fees are dear enough, though certainly a sound investment for an unforgettable golfing experience.
