Kiltimagh Museum
Set in the village of Kiltimagh in Co. Mayo, the The Kiltimagh Museumis a small local museum set in a transformed railway station that depicts the story of the town's past, including its fortunes, hardships, and famous residents.
For generations, Kiltimagh was associated with depression and poverty hitting its lowest point in the 1980s when houses were boarded up and sold. The Railway Station, once a buzz with activity became derelict abandoned.
In 1989 the station was re-opened as the Kiltimagh Museum and now houses artefacts of varying descriptions depicting aspects of a lifestyle now no longer known, and managing to unite the past with the present.
The old Station Masters House is now an art centre housing sculptures by both local and widely known artists.
If you go: Kiltimagh Museum is open from June through Sept, daily from 2pm to 6pm.
