Peacock's Hotel slated for Redevelopment
Set in the heart of Connemara outside the village of Maam Cross, Peacocke's Hotel has long been something of an institution over the decades, providing sustenance and accommodation to travelers exploring the rugged beauty of Connemara.
Peacocke's was poised for revitalization. The popular wayside stopover had closed in recent years. Intrepid travelers have missed the many roles Peacockes provided. But plans were announced that the hotel, restaurant and cafe would undergo extensive refurbishment and redevelopment. Work commenced in January of 2008 and was expected to take up to two months to complete. Peacocke's is expected to reopen for the 2008 tourist season.
Peacock's will certainly remain a well rounded, all inclusive tourist attraction. The Bogdale Bar will be ideal stopover for weary travelers to refresh themselves whilst touring Connemara. And the Lake View Room will serve the finest of foods daily.
And the ever-popular 20 metre viewing tower will reopen, providing visitors unspoiled views over Connemara's mountains and lakes. This includes the Quiet Man Cottage – a traditional thatched Irish Cottage made famous by the film of the same name. Peacocke's will also continue to operate an Irish craft gift shop.
The newly redeveloped Peacocke's will offer a variety of dining options, catering to various types of travelers. Management will develop a 100 seat high quality coffee shop serving lunches, cakes, snacks and a range of hot and cold beverages, catering largely to the coach crowds and incorporated into the Craft and Gift Shop. There will also be an outdoor seating area to the front of the Coffee Shop. The hotel will be serving a Bar Menu in their refurbished Bogdale Bar, all day, through to 9.00 p.m. Peacocke's will also include a 60 seat fine dining Restaurant where excellent food will be served. And the Lakeview restaurant is to be transformed into a banqueting room which will cater for weddings and functions for up to 250 persons.
For guests wishing to stay overnight in the heart of Connemara, Peacocke's will continue to offer quality three star accommodation in its hotel, with 25 traditionally appointed guest rooms. Peacocke's is a great base from which to explore Connemara, go walking, fishing, golfing or shopping in Clifden or Galway city (25 miles away).
