Carton House Named European Golf Resort of the Year

Carton House in Co. Kildare, one of Ireland's newest golf destinations, has received prestigious accolades, affirming its status among Ireland's premier golf resorts.

The Irish Golf Tour Operators Association has named Carton House as the European Golf Resort of the Year for 2008. The title, bestowed by 300 world wide golf tour operators, affirms the quality of Carton House as a golf resort of the highest caliber.

Carton House was the unanimous first choice of operators from 42 countries. Set in 1,000 acres of parkland, Carton House has acknowledged championship golf courses and an 18th century stately home that has been transformed into a luxury hotel. It delivers a fabulous golfing experience, combining superb golfing and luxurious accommodation.

The Montgomerie Course, designed of course by Europe’s dominant golfing professional, has already been voted the Best New Design of 2004 by Golf World magazine and one of Ireland’s top ten courses by US-based Golf Digest magazine. The links-style course has been chosen as the venue for two Irish Open Championships and strikes the perfect blend and balance with former Open and US Master champion Mark O’Meara’s adjacent course design that was the highly successful venue for the 2005 Irish Amateur Championship.

Moreover, the Golfing Union of Ireland, the world's oldest golf union, has established its headquarters on the Carton House estate, along with a national academy and training centre that attracts very best emerging golfing talent.

The prestigious award by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators was presented to Carton House General Manager David Webster and Golf Sales and Marketing manager Aine Mangan at the International Golf Market in Cancun, Mexico, on December 6th 2007
