Tour the Ages
Irish specialist Historical and Archaeological tour company, Tour the Ages, are unveiling a new program of week long package tours for 2008 entitled: Megalithic Ireland - The Tombs and Structures of the Irish Stone Age. Learn about and experience the prehistory of Ireland, be guided through Ireland’s ancient landscapes by their experienced specialist academics from Irish Universities.
If you are blessed with a curious mind and a spirit of adventure, if you want to get out and tramp about the countryside and still have the creature comforts of a quality hotel and an air conditioned coach, then this package has been designed for you.
These tours will run for seven days and will take you around some of the more iconic Irish prehistoric monuments as well as leading you off the beaten track to some of Ireland’s more hidden archaeological treasures. Their focus is on the period known as the Megalithic (circa 6000BC to 3700BC). A megalith is a stone of great size and refers to the huge passage graves, stone circles and other types of monuments built using these massive stones and dotted enigmatically across the Irish Landscape.
Over the week of the tour you will learn about the people of this time, how they lived and the significance of these huge structures. This is a wonderful way to experience the wealth of prehistoric culture in Ireland while visiting some of our most diverse and beautiful landscapes, from the rugged wildlife reserve surrounding Lough Gur, County Limerick, to the surreal lunar limestone expanse of the Burren, in Clare.
Participants will spend time in the cities of Dublin and Galway but they will also get a slice of rural life by staying in lovely little towns and villages like Liscannor, in County Clare. The tour costs €1,700 and further details are available on request.
